Our Beliefs

The following listing of our confession of faith is given for the purpose of: maintenance of the purity of doctrine; clarification of the Baptist position based on Scripture; guidance in local church theological disputes; indoctrination of youth; and guidance in church discipline:

Section  1:  The Scriptures: "We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, as inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed, and therefore the final authority for faith and life. The King James Version of the Bible shall be official and only English translation used by the Church.

Section  2:  The Fall of Man: "We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam's sin the human race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; and that all men are sinners by birth and choice, and, of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition.

Section 3:  The Way of Salvation: "We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins; and that in order to be saved, sinners must be born again; that the new birth is a new creation in Christ Jesus; that is instantaneous and not a process.  We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and are thus secure in
Christ forever.

Section  4:  Of Justification: "We believe that the great gospel blessing which Christ in His fullness bestows on such as believe in Him, is justification; that justification consists in the pardon of sin and the promise of eternal life, on principles of righteousness; that is bestowed not in consideration of any works of righteousness that we have done, but solely through His own redemption and righteousness, that it brings us into a state of most blessed peace and favor with God, and secures every other blessing needful for time and eternity.

Section  5:  Of the Doctrine of God: "We believe that there is one God and Godhead existing in three Persons, the Father, the Son, the Holy Ghost.  These three are one having the same nature, attributes, and design.  God is the creator of all things and is the author of our Salvation through his Son the Lord Jesus Christ.

Section  6:  Of the Doctrine of Jesus Christ: "We believe that Jesus the Son of God was born of a virgin, thus becoming God in the flesh.  We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, and, though tempted in all points as we are, yet He could not have sinned.  He died a voluntary, vicarious, and substitutionary death and shed His blood for the atonement of our sin.  He rose bodily from the grave on the third day, ascended to Heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Intercessor and Advocate.

Section  7: Of the Doctrine of the Holy Spirit: "We believe that the Holy Spirit is a Person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement; and, that He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, the Divine Teacher who assists believers to understand and appropriate the Scriptures, and that it is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be filled with the Spirit. We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowal of spiritual gifts to every believer. We believe that the sign of gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues and the gift of healing, were temporary. We believe that speaking in tongues was never the common or necessary sign of baptism or the filling of the Holy Spirit.

Section 8:  Of the Gospel Church:  "That a visible church of Christ is a congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel; observing the ordinances of Christ; governed by His laws; and exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word;  that its only proper officers are bishops or pastors, and deacons, whose qualifications, claims, and duties are defined in the epistles to Timothy and Titus.  We believe the church is to carry out the Great Commission, to observe the two ordinances forthcoming, and to be a pillar and ground of the truth of the Scriptures.

Section  9:  Of Baptism and the Lord's Supper:  "We believe that baptism and the Lord's Supper are two ordinances given by  Christ for the church.  There is no saving power in baptism.  That Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water, in the name of the Father, the Son, and Spirit, to show forth in a solemn and beautiful emblem, our faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, with its purifying power; that it is a prerequisite to the privileges of a church relation.  The Lord's Supper is to be taken by believers only, in fellowship with the Lord, and to the Lord's Supper, in which the members of the church commemorate together the undying love of Christ; preceded always by self-examination.

Section  10:  Of Civil Government: "That civil government is of divine appointment, for the interests and good order of human society; and the magistrates are to be prayed for, conscientiously honored, and obeyed, except in things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the only Lord of the conscience, and the  Prince of the kings of the earth.

Section  11:  Of the Resurrection, Return of Christ, and Related Events: "We believe in the bodily resurrection, the ascension, the high priesthood, and the imminent second coming of Christ; and the resurrection of the righteous dead.  We believe the fate of the saved will be eternity in a perfect heaven, whereas those who are lost will spend a conscious eternity in a literal and tormenting hell, and following the Great White Throne Judgement, the lake of fire.  We believe that Satan is a person, the author of sin and the cause of the Fall of Man.  We believe that God created the universe in the six literal, 24-hour periods, and we reject evolution.

Section  12:  Of Separation and Current Issue: "We take a stand against all forms of compromise to the Word of God; we stand against abortion, since life begins at conception; we stand against the consumption of alcohol; we oppose any sexual activity outside of marriage; we strongly condemn any form of homosexuality, fornication, adultery, and pornography; we oppose the New Age philosophies.  We believe that all the saved should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord; and, that separation from all religious apostasy, all worldly and sinful pleasures, practices, and associations is commanded of God.

This statement of Faith and Practice is not meant to be complete but rather to illustrate the direction that this church has taken in establishing a Scriptural direction.

Section  13:  Human Sexuality: "We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between one naturally-born man and naturally-born woman.  We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God's gift of sex.  We believe that God disapproves of and forbids any attempt to alter one's gender by surgery or appearance (Gen. 2:24; Gen. 19:5,13; Gen. 26:8,9; Lev. 18:1-30; Rom. 1:26-29; I Cor. 5:1, 6:9; I Thess. 4:1-8; Heb. 13;4). We believe that the only Scriptural marriage is the joining of one naturally-born man and one naturally-born woman for life (Gen. 2:24; Rom. 7:2; I Cor. 7:10; Eph. 5:22)
